Chamber meeting

The Summersville Chamber of Commerce met on Thursday, September 10 to finalize plans for Pumpkin Fest and decide the Christmas Parade theme.

  • Pumpkin Fest will be held on Saturday, October 3 from 10 am until 3 pm. This year's events will be very similar to last year's. Read the fest insert to find times for each event. To enter in the pumpkin bake off, pumpkin carving/decorating, and scarecrow contests you will need to bring your creations to the entry booth at 10:00 am. The bake off will be judged at 10:30 am in order to judge any perishable items. Other entries will be judged throughout the day. New this year will be a side walk chalk contest which will be held at 1-2 pm around the bank parking lot. Contestants will need to draw a fall scene within the hour. You may enter as a team and will need to bring your own side-walk chalk; must be non-toxic and washable.
  • In new business, it was decided that the Christmas Parade would be held on Friday, December 4. The theme will be “Hillbilly Christmas”.
  • There will be another meeting on October 1 to finalize any last minute details for the the Pumpkin Fest. With out any further business, Jessi Berry moved to adjourn; Rose Garman, second.

Meeting on 8/13/09

  • Cathy Tuttle, President, called the regular August meeting to order. The minutes were read by Rose Garman, Jessica Berry made a motion to approve the minutes; second, Pauline. The treasurer’s report was read by Pauline, including the bill at Summersville Beacon for the City Wide Yard Sale. Rose made a motion to approve; second by Floralyn Perry.
  • Vivian Griffith, manager Community Center, joined the meeting to represent the Center and discuss the BBQ Cook Off, Saturday, September 12. Teams will consist of no more than five people. Teams will pay $50 entry fee, supply own meat and furnishings. There will be four categories to enter. Booth space will be available inside the Center for $15.
  • The Second Annual Pumpkin Festival will be October 3. Gary Alcorn, who will play mostly country music for $400 all day, passed by show of hands. Remember to bring your lawn chairs!
  • Cathy made up a flyer to advertise the festival; Brenda Wilcox will contact radio stations; and Jessica will contact KY3.
  • The National Guard will bring the rock climbing wall and jousting ring. Expected games will be egg toss, lawn mower race, seed spitting, golf cart race, tricycle race, sack race, hay bale toss, and others.
